Lake Gaston
Lake Gaston is a beautiful unspoiled lake situated in the rolling foothills of Virginia and North Carolina. It is a 34 miles long controlled lake, providing 20,300 acres of recreational surface and over 350 miles of shoreline. The waters of Lake Gaston are officially classified "A-2", the highest rating in the eastern United States. With a limited variation of water level, no more than one foot rise or fall, the unspoiled beauty and peaceful atmosphere has been preserved. Once a part of the Roanoke River, the earliest inhabitants were Occoneechee Indians. The Occoneechee settled where the Dan and Staunton Rivers merge to become the Roanoke River. As the early English frontiers advanced westward, the colonists used this river to move their tobacco, livestock and forest products to the eastern markets.
